Effective participation in the business world and in society in general, requires an understanding of the law and of legal processes. LAW101 Introduction to Law is designed to provide students with an introduction to the legal concepts they will need to understand for the successful completion of their chosen major. In this subject, students will gain an appreciation of the nature and sources of law, the institutions and processes that underpin the Australian legal system, and the practical skills required to find, use and understand the law. In relation to substantive areas of law, a primary focus is placed upon the principles of contract law as the foundation of commercial transactions, with attention also given to the principles of tort law and consumer law. Upon completion of this subject, students are expected to gain both the knowledge and skills base necessary to pursue further legal studies.
